I'm a self-taught fine artist based in Howard County, MD, who specializes in portraits and has experience working with pen, pencil, charcoal, watercolor, and acrylic. My inspiration comes from my own personal life experiences and focuses primarily on themes of duality and/or the contrast between two concepts and/or aspects of something. As Frank Herbert wrote, “one cannot have a single thing without its opposite.”
Each of us a is a product of our individual life experiences. I am no different. Being an adopted kid diagnosed with ADHD did more than impact the way I look at the world. It has become a part of me, and it wasn’t until accepting the imperfections of my situation that I could appreciate the beauty in it. Now, as a recovering alcoholic, I am forced to continue to mold my perspective and accept the things that make me who I am. Hard as it is, it is often the things we run from that end up being our salvation.
Addiction has always been there and always will remain. However, I choose to no longer run from it in life, or in my art. I appreciate beauty because I know what ugly is. WE appreciate light because we know what darkness is. I appreciate my gift because I have accepted my flaws. This is my art; this IS me.
